Professional Experience

Mr. Evans began his professional career as a design engineer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Houston, Texas, wherein he designed electronic systems for the space shuttle and worked in mission control to monitor such electronic systems. Mr. Evans also designed and was the project engineer for a sensor data processing system for the International Space Station (ISS), for which he received the Special Achievement Award from NASA.

After graduating law school, Mr. Evans worked for several national law firms as a patent attorney where he focused his practice on drafting and prosecuting patent applications. Later, after obtaining a strong foundation in patent prosecution, Mr. Evans began focusing his practice on commercial litigation, wherein he litigated over 50 jury trials to verdict.

Mr. Evans later was recruited to be in-house counsel for Methode Electronics, Inc. in northwest Chicago, where he continued to prosecute patent applications and manage the substantial patent portfolio of the company. Mr. Evans also oversaw and managed numerous patent litigation cases while in-house counsel for Methode, and later, Stratos Lightwave, Inc, a subsidiary and later independent company.

After leaving Stratos Lightwave, Inc, Mr. Evans became a trial attorney at the international law firm of McGuireWoods, LLP, where he focused his practice on intellectual property and other large scale commercial litigation. While at McGuireWoods, Mr. Evans successfully litigated numerous multimillion dollar cases, including a successful appeal and oral argument before the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

In order to provide more flexibility to his clients, Mr. Evans founded Chicago IP Law in 2012 and focuses his practice on litigating patent and other intellectual property related matters. Additionally, Mr. Evans continues to prosecute patent applications, and being an active trial attorney in addition to a patent attorney, provides the unique skill of drafting such applications to provide broad patent protection and enforceability, while further withstanding court challenges on validity.
